Flute

Steve Alder has been active in flute performance throughout the intermountain west for over three decades.  He is a past first place winner of the Senior Division of the Utah State Fair competition, and studied on music scholarship at Brigham Young University.  Steve performed as principal flutist with the Mormon Youth Symphony in Salt Lake City for over fifteen years, and performed in numerous live, recorded and televised performances in this capacity.

He has performed as soloist in the Salt Lake Tabernacle and the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, and has performed on tour in numerous locations including Washington, D.C., Portland, Boise, Oakland, San Jose, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego, Reno and throughout Utah and Arizona.  Steve has recorded with James DePreist, Doc Severinson, Kurt Bestor, Michael Ballam, Newell Dayley and for BYU Recording Studios.

In addition to performing with the Mormon Youth Symphony, Steve has performed with numerous organizations in the intermountain and southwest regions, including the Utah Symphony, the Utah Opera Orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Ballet West Orchestra, the Northern Utah Honor Band, the BYU Philharmonic, Wind Symphony, and Honors Woodwind Quintet, Promised Valley Playhouse, the Arizona Mormon Orchestra and Choir, and the Utah Allstate Orchestra.  He studied flute performance with Erich Graf, Ted Wight and Susan Goodfellow. Steve and his wife Kathleen are the parents of six children, and he is a practicing physician in Arizona.
